These numbers are the dates that you downloaded your images within that month, not the date they were taken. Here you can see I have images from January and February in my 2017 folder.Įach month, when opened, contains another set of numbered files. Here you can see I have images in my library from 2013-present. There you will see your entire library organized by year. We are looking for a folder titled “Masters.” Select that by double clicking on it. You are going to select “Show Package Contents” as shown above.įinder will bring you to a folder that contains all the actual files that make up your Photos Library. Right click (or option-click on Mac keyboard) on the “Photos Library” folder. There you will see your “Photos Library.” It’s the one with the colorful icon to the left of it (not the one with the file folder icon).

I know I cannot be the only one out there wondering how to do this, so I thought I’d walk you through the process.įirst, in Finder, go to your “Pictures” folder and select it. It took me a long time of searching before I finally found the answer.
When backing up my photos, I wanted not only the library file for Photos, but all of the files containing the originals as well in the event that my library file was ever corrupted.
The original is still safely in my Photos library. This makes a copy of the file at a location I specify (usually my desktop) instead of revealing or moving the original file. To edit images, I go to my library and select the image or images I want to export, then go to: File > Export > Export Unmodified Original. My main computer is my MacBook Pro and I use OS X’s Photos to import all my images. Check out my post here for my method of organizing and backing up digital images.
It was a huge project but it felt so great to get it all done and caught up. Earlier this year, I organized and backed up all of my digital photos.
